Brian Kennedy's song wins Eurosong 2006

Surprise, Surprise, Ireland's Eurovision Song for Athens 2006 is Brian Kennedy's "Every Cry Is A Song For Love".

You can hear the song here.
You can watch the video here.

THE SHOW

RTE Late Late Show Eurosong 2006 was a great show, looking back on the last forty years of Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest with Guildo Horn of Germany 1998, The Purple Duo of Belgium 1973, The Dress falling off the Presenter in 1985 and much more. Linda Martin sang her 1992 song winner "Why Me?", Niamh sang her 1993 song "In your eyes", Dickie Rock sang his 1966 song and Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan sang their 1994 winning song "Rock 'n' roll kids" which was voted by the Irish public as the best song from Ireland of all time.

Maxi (Ireland 1973, 1981, Now a RTE Radio 1 presenter), Linda Martin (Ireland 1984 & 1992, now a judge on You're a Star), Louis Walsh (Former Manager for Johnny Logan, 1980 & 1987, now a X Factor Judge), Marty Whelan (RTE Commentor for the Eurovision Song Contest since 2000, Fan of the Contest and presenter of RTE 2FM in the morning ), Micky Harte (Ireland 2003, now a successful singer) and Donna & Joe (Ireland 2005, a group I thought would not be there) were all interviewed by presenter Pat Kenny, who was the host of the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1988.

TOP THREE IRISH EUROVISION SONGS AS VOTED BY THE IRISH PUBLIC:

1. Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan - Rock 'n' roll kids - 1ST in Ireland 1994
2. Johnny Logan - Whats another year - 1ST in The Netherlands 1980
3. Johnny Logan - Hold me Now - 1ST in Belgium 1987

SO WHAT ABOUT THE SONG?

The outcome of the voting among the audience present at the Late Late Show studio was as follows:
Song A: The Greatest Song Of All' - 19% of the votes
Song B: All Over The World - 34% of the votes
Song C:Every Song Is A Cry For Love - 47% of the votes

In the end, the official national voting decided Song C: 'Every Song Is A Cry For Love' as the winning song.

The song sounds a bit like "Raise me up" but a key lower to me anyway, but is the song good enough for Europe?

I think the feeling everywhere was that he was going to win for sure, and if you notice on video, he put more passion in his song that the other two which is natural of course. He was very shocked when it was announced that he was the winner but I think the whole country was saying - Surprised? No way! but they will be a lot of talk next week on radio about his song been chosen for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Athens here we come!!! At the moment, I think he will pass the Semi Final for sure in May!! After that, Ireland could be in Trouble in the final!! Time will tell. I must hear all the songs first.
