Ireland: RTÉ to broadcast both Semi-Finals

Surprisingly, well to me anyway, RTE will broadcast both Semi-Finals and Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.

Ireland is drawn to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 on Tuesday 20th May, RTÉ must broadcast this the first Semi-final.

However according to the EBU, broadcasters have the option not to broadcast the other semi-final in which they do not participate in.

Nevertheless, according to head of delegtion for Ireland, Julian Vignoles, RTÉ will be broadcasting both semi-finals on Tuesday 20th May, Thursday 22nd May and the Grand Final on Saturday 24th May live from Belgrade, Serbia.

Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
