What a difference 7 years make!

As some may know already, Google is celebrating ten years since the launch of their search engine in 1998.

As part of their celebrations, Google launched a sub section of the search engine back in 2001, which shows the results you would have gotten back in that year.

2001 was very different to today, internet wise. Remember there was no "You Tube" or "Wikipedia" back then.

Here at Eurovision 24, we said we would have a little fun and do a bit of Eurovision searching of our own. We searched for the "Eurovision Song Contest" and we would see what it would bring up. First to come top of the search results is songcontest.nl, a website popular at the time, but has not been updated for quite some time. For some unusual reason, there was no mention of www.songcontest.com, the official website for Eurovision Song Contest 2001 in Denmark.

Remember the official Eurovision Song Contest website Eurovision.tv, did not exist in 2001. It was launched in 2002 for the contest in Tallinn. ETV was in charge of the site that year. LTV were in charge of the site in 2003 for the contest in Riga. The official site that we see today was launched in 2004 for the contest in Turkey.

ESCToday.com, the popular Eurovision website, was just launched in 2001 ready for the 2002 contest in Estonia. Another popular site, Oikotimes.com did not exist in the records.

What a difference 7 years make. Today if you search for the "Eurovision Song Contest", you are brainwashed with the likes of Eurovision.tv, Wikipedia and You Tube.
