Daniel Jablonski, spokesman at the Polish national broadcaster, TVP, has confirmed that the country will participate at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in May in Oslo (Norway). The details regarding the procedure to select a singer and a song to represent Poland in Oslo have not been disclosed yet. They are due to be released in October. Source: ESC Today -

On the 14th February, Poland held its national final. Ten acts presented their songs and jury and televoting decided to send Lidia Kopania to Moscow with the song I don't wanna leave written by Alex Geringos and Bernd Klimpel. -

I am a bit surprised by this decision but it has been announced an hour ago by The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that the third Eurovision Dance Contest 2009 will take place in September this year at the Heydar Aliev Sports and Concert Complex (SCC) in Baku, Azerbaijan. Nearly 8,000 spectators are expected to attend the show in Baku's largest concert arena. The event is organised by the EBU and will be hosted by its Azerbaijani Member, Ictimai Television (ITV). The contest is to be held on the 16th September 2009. The first two editions of the show were hosted in the United Kingdom successfully by the BBC in 2007 and 2008. Azerbaijan's public service broadcaster, Ictimai Television, then won the EBU tender to serve as host broadcaster for the 2009 edition. It has been reported that Poland will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. There was doubt that Poland would not participate due to the Russian invasion in Georgia recently and also due to the fact that TVP will be the host broadcaster of the Eurovision Dance Contest 2009 in Warsaw after winning the contest in September in Glasgow. Since participating for the first time in 1994, this will be Poland's 14th time in the contest. They did not qualify for the contest in 2000 or 2002, but has participated in every contest since then.

TVP, the Polish broadcaster have not ruled out the possibility to withdraw from the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, but their final decision will be made after the EBU announces any changes in the voting procedure according to ESC Today . One of the changes proposed by TVP is the introduction of an international jury whose role will be similar to the one in the Eurovision Dance Contest. TVP have submitted a proposal to the EBU, regarding changes in the voting system, which they feel will help in the direction of diminishing the impact of neighbourly voting on the outcome of the contest and place more emphasis on the artistic value of the song. The Polish broadcaster proposes, among other things, the introduction of an international jury similar to the one used in the Eurovision Dance Contest. Congratulations to Poland, deserving winners of the 2008 Eurovision Dance Contest which was held in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom on Saturday 6th September. 14 countries took part in a well organised production show by the British broadcaster, BBC, which also hosted the contest last year. Marcin Mroczek & Edyta Herbus won the contest with their fusion of Rumba, Cha-cha & comtemporary Jazz Dance to a medley of Michael Jackson songs. Second place went to Russia and Ukraine finished third. However the way the judges votes were sorted have confused viewers. 4 professional judges give their votes after each dance from 1 - 12. After the judges gave their votes, Denmark were in 1st place. Ireland, Austria and the Netherlands who had the lowest number after the judges vote, were given "0" when it came to the public voting. This morning's Mirror UK newspaper reports that next year's Eurovision Song Contest is under threat after ex-Soviet states called for a boycott after Russia invaded Georgia. Baltic nations Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia may pull out of the contest in Moscow in support of the embattled country. A poll in Estonia has already backed a boycott. Pressure is rising for a Polish withdrawal. Both the Baltic nations and former eastern bloc countries helped clinch victory for Russian singer Dima Bilan, 26, this year. Estonia's culture minister Laine Janes, said: "Solidarity must exist with Lithuania and Latvia to show consolidated support for Georgia." But Svante Stockselius, of organiser the European Broadcasting Union, said: "These issues should not be linked. We are organising a non-political event."

TVP has also expressed its disappointment after this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. There is no doubt that the first ever qualification of Polish entry to the final, Isis Gee ’s song and performance are described as a success. However the political voting procedure is a completely different story. Polish newspapers like Super Express, Rzeczpospolita, Fakt, Metro were full of criticism as concern the voting system. Many well known artists and journalists even called for withdrawal from the contest or withdrawal in case of unchanged voting procedures in the future. Just after The Opole Song Festival TVP is going to discuss whether to participate in the next year’s ESC or not. After 2 Semi Finals, we now know the countries that are taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday. After many years, I can finally say that it is going to be a decent SONG contest this year. Can't wait. It is interesting to note, that Sweden are placed 15th slot on Saturday, the same slot as in Jerusalem in 1999 in which Charlotte Perrelli won with "take me to your heaven". It is also interesting to note that for the first time since 2000, Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland, are together for the first time in a Eurovision Song Contest Final. They were also together in 1999, when Sweden won. Polish broadcaster TVP once again decided to have a national final with a 50/50 mix of televoters and a jury selecting the entry. Ten of the songs competedin the "Piosenka Dla Europy" staged in Warsaw on February 23rd. The winner chosen by a cambination of a jury and a televote is Isis Gee and the ballad "For Life".
