Eurovision approves Israel entry

Israel's controversial entry for this year's Eurovision has been approved by organisers despite apparent references to Iran's nuclear programme.

Push The Button by the group Teapacks was deemed "generally appropriate", said Eurovision spokesman Kjell Ekholm.

Two weeks ago, Mr Ekholm said the song, which refers to "demonic" rulers and "he's gonna blow us up to... kingdom come" could be banned.

Teapacks deny the song is about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Contest supervisor Svante Stockselius said they do not comment on individual cases, "but a couple of songs caused some discussions".

Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
