The empty semi final seats!

The block of empty seats seen on television during the Eurovision Song Contest semi final last night were tickets given to the competition sponsors. The tickets were part of a package given to the competition's main sponsors and will, we are assured, be filled during the final.

Every year, the main sponsors of the competition receive a number of tickets for the many douzens of people that work to produce and support the Eurovision Song Contest. Many of them work abroad and will only be in attendance for the weekend, therefore missing the semi final.

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. However, this year the votes of each jury were used to determine one qualifier from each of the semifinals. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
