Serbia Win Eurovision 2007

Congratulations to Serbia, the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest winners. In a close run race with Ukraine, they won the contest with one jury to spare, with the 12 points from neighbours, FYR Macedonia confirming the victory. They finished with 268 points.

Serbia is the first country since Israel won in 1998, to win the Song Contest with a non-English Language song.

    Maybe it would be a better contest if people voted for talent rather than their neighbours, but well done Serbia.

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo. OFFICIAL: The 2008 results of the Turkish back up jury

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. However, this year the votes of each jury were used to determine one qualifier from each of the semifinals. Yakur Mutla was a member of the Turkish jury, and has passed on a copy of the votes to oikotimes.com that were given all each of the jurors after the event.
