Ireland: Tonight's the night

Tonight, Ireland will choose its representative for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Six acts will compete for the ticket to Belgrade.

The show starts at 20:00 CET and will be hosted by Ray D'Acry live at the University Concert Hall in Limmerick. The public will select the song using a mix of televote and SMS. A webcast will be provided here.

The line-up
  1. Double Cross My Heart - Donal Skehan (Joel Humlen, Oscar Gorres and Charlie Mason)
  2. Irelande Douze Points - Dustin The Turkey (Darren Smith, Simon Fine and Dustin The Turkey)
  3. Time to Rise - Maya (Maja Slatinsek and Ziga Pirnat)
  4. Not Crazy After All - Leona (Leona Daly and Steve Booker)
  5. Sometimes - Liam Geddes (Susan Hewitt)
  6. Chances - Marc Roberts (Marc Roberts)
Ireland finished last in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2007. In 2008, the country will take part in the first semi final on 20th May.

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo. OFFICIAL: The 2008 results of the Turkish back up jury

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. However, this year the votes of each jury were used to determine one qualifier from each of the semifinals. Yakur Mutla was a member of the Turkish jury, and has passed on a copy of the votes to oikotimes.com that were given all each of the jurors after the event.
