The Melodifestivalen final was staged on March 15th at the Globen Arena in Stockholm. Before that there were five semi-finals. The top two songs in four semis qualify and they are joined by two songs qualifying through a "second chance" selection.

Charlotte Pirelli, who as Charlotte Nilsson won Eurovision in 1999 with "Take Me To Your Heaven", won the national final with the song "Hero". After 9 years winning the contest for Sweden, can she do it again?

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. However, this year the votes of each jury were used to determine one qualifier from each of the semifinals. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
