This may be of interest for our United Kingdom visitors to the blog, but Samantha Janus who plays Ronnie Mitchell in the popular BBC soap drama Eastenders actually represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 in Italy.

I actually never knew this until she appeared on the talk show "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" and they showed a clip of the entry "Message to your Heart". Her song came 10th out of 22 songs that year.

As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
