Eurovision 2009: Record of participating countries, promises EBU

According to Oikotimes, EBU's Svante Stockselius said that we will have a record of participating countries.

The statement of Svante Stockselius took place during the insignia exchange of the host city.

Though Mr Stockselius didn't gave any details on the participating countries. This means that the upcoming list of participating countries will include a number of 44 countries or more.

The following statements are being made by various websites and fans about the countries that are in and out:
  1. Monaco and San Marino are in 2009 despite rumours.
  2. Georgia will participate in 2009 after winning the 2008 Junior Eurovision, despite claiming they will not participate due to policitial reasons.
  3. Kosovo will participate in 2009.
  4. Lebanon will return in 2009 after the 2005 issue.
  5. Luxembourg may return.
  6. Italy may return.
  7. Austria may return due to changes in the voting.
To be honest I could agree with statement 1 & 7.
  • Georgia will not participate as the contest is been held in Russia, the country that Georgia is having policitial issues with.
  • Kosovo is still not an active member of the EBU yet, so participation in the 2009 contest is out of the question, they may have to wait for the 2010 contest.
  • Lebanon did not participate in 2005 as they would not broadcast the Israel song entry, therefore if Israel is in, Lebanon won't take part. Their 3 year ban from the contest ended this year.
  • Luxembourg & Italy returning is unlikely.
