Latvia: intends to withdraw from 2009 Eurovision Song Contest

Latvian national broadcaster, LTV has confirmed to esctoday.com that they have informed the EBU that they intend to withdraw from the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. The reason is simply financial and the broadcaster is currently battling to save it's full range of television and radio channels.

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
