San Marino withdraws from Eurovision 2009

What were rumours is now fact, San Marino will not participate in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Broadcaster has informed the EBU that despite wanting to participate, it will not be able to meet all of the necessary criteria for entering the competition in Moscow. San Marino's withdrawal from the competition after just one year of particiaption. Initally, the national broadcaster of San Marino, SMRTV, had applied to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.

This sad news today comes as the EBU maintains discussions to keep Latvia in the competition. Reports in the last two days have confirmed that the Baltic state is looking to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest.

Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
