Eurovision 2009: Semifinal draw scheduled for 30th January

It has reported that on the 30th of January 2009 the semifinal draw will occur. In this event all the countries taking part (excluding Russia [Host] and the Big Four countries) will be separated and drawn from the two semifinals.

Like last year, the EBU will attempt to make a fair draw by separating countries and geographic regions within Europe to avoid neighbour voting.

The draw is expected to be shown live through the Russian broadcaster and Eurovision.tv

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
