Eurovision 2008: Media representatives vote

Journalists from all over the Europe have predicted their own top 10 regarding the countries who may qualify to the final on May 20 and 22. On the first semifinal Greece is leading in the media preferences with 706 votes, closely followed by Russia (687 points) and Israel (611). In the journalist opinion Romania, Norway, Slovenia, Armenia, Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Azerbaijan may also qualify to the final. Regarding the second semifinal, Ukraine leads the pool with 701 points, followed by Sweden (691), Turkey (688), Portugal, Iceland, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta and Switzerland. The less votes were obtained by Lithuania (263), Moldova (278), The Netherlands (351) and Andorra (373). Here is the complete media pool result for both semifinals.

You will remember at the beginning of July, we reported of rumours of the results of the Turkish back up jury, that showed up some interesting reading. As we all know, each country must have a back-up jury whose votes are used in the event of problems with televoting. However, this year the votes of each jury were used to determine one qualifier from each of the semifinals. Kosovo: RTK wants to enter Eurovision as soon as possible

Kosovarian broadcaster RTK has shown interest in entering the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster will soon apply for active EBU membership and will hope to get it in time to enter the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. As a national selection, they will use a contest which stopped years ago, called Akordet e Kosoves . The question remains whether RTK will be able to get active EBU membership, since countries like Serbia, Russia and Greece can object, as they don't recognise the new Republic of Kosovo.
